Uber Boat by Thames Clippers unlocks West London by river with new services

Saturday 29 July will see Uber Boat by Thames Clippers introduce a new weekend offering with a brand-new regular weekend service to West London, making a range of family attractions accessible by river for the first time.

The changes will see piers to the west of the city which were previously only utilised during commuter hours – Chelsea Harbour, Wandsworth Riverside Quarter, and Putney – now served on weekends. West London’s residents will be able to travel into central London using the RB2 route on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays for the first time. Equally, this development offers an alternative mode of transport for Londoners who wish to explore the neighbourhoods of Chelsea, Wandsworth and Putney – increasing footfall for local businesses and tourist attractions.

From 29 July, Weekend services will call at Putney Pier, which offers easy access to popular attraction Fulham Palace. What was once the official residence of the Bishop of London, remains a stunning manor house and botanic garden. Families can join free weekend ‘Historical Tours’ of the house and children are invited to explore a new natural play area, which uses logs saved from tree work for natural play.

Wide-open spaces and wetlands offer a peaceful paradise just a short walk from Putney Pier. This summer, WWT London Wetland Centre invites families to view the wonder of the wetlands through the eyes of the UK’s best loved illustrator, Quentin Blake. Illustrated guides full of Blake’s wetland drawings are available to collect, while art and illustration activities aimed at all ages and abilities are on offer.

Chelsea Harbour Pier offers a great way to visit the boutique shops and stroll through the beautiful mews of Chelsea. In the shadow of Stamford Bridge sits the quiet oasis of Brompton Cemetery. The famous graveyard is the resting place of many celebrated Londoners, including suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst and Queen Victoria’s doctor John Snow. The Royal Park is home to the excellent Café North Lodge, which remains open until late evening in the summer.

Wandsworth Park sits close to the Thames and Wandsworth Riverside Quarter Pier. The park offers several footpaths and play areas, as well as the Putt in the Park minigolf course. For both experienced golfers looking to work on their putting, or a family up for trying something new, the minigolf course is fantastic fun.
A family can join the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers service with an All Zones River Roamer, which offers 2 adults and up to 3 children (15 and under) a day’s unlimited use of the River Bus for just £42.40. The group discounted price means children are sailing for free.

Even without a River Roamer ticket, children aged 4 and under travel for free on all Uber Boat by Thames Clippers services and children between the ages of 5 and 15 receive a 50% discount on all fares. Ticket can be purchased online, on the Thames Clippers Tickets or Uber apps, and at the piers.
