Uber Eats revives the £3 meal deal with a Michelin twist

Uber Eats is on a mission to revive the iconic British meal deal and help workers reclaim the lunch hour. Collaborating with top chefs, this summer Uber Eats is offering a gourmet twist on supermarket shelf icons like the Coronation Chicken and BLT, for the throwback price of £3.

Far from your average supermarket sandwich, the menu has been crafted by Will Murray and Jack Croft, Co-Owners of top restaurants Fallow, FOWL and Roe. The critically-acclaimed chefs rose to fame for their innovative and sustainable approach to British cuisine, from their viral Chicken Head Pie at FOWL to their Snail Vindaloo Flatbread at Roe.

The menu includes a luxury Coronation Lobster roll, Rotisserie Chicken & Ssamjang bun, Cheese & Honion focaccia, as well as a VLT sarnie. Each sandwich is priced at £3 and comes with a complimentary serving of luxury crisps and soda to complete the classic meal deal offering.

The Coronation Lobster sarnie offers an inventive twist on a familiar favourite, pairing succulent lobster with crispy curry leaves and freshly picked samphire sambal, encased in a freshly made brioche roll. The Rotisserie Chicken & Ssamjang is stuffed to the brim with Sutton Hoo Cuban Chicken and Korean Ssamjang, brought together with a well-balanced chilli and garlic sauce. Finally, for vegans and vegetarians, The VLT sees bacon replaced with sauteed mushrooms, while the Cheese & Honion offers a fresh take on a tired aisle staple.

To shake up workers’ lunchtime routine, Uber Eats will be launching the new menu at the opening of the Uber Eats Sandwich Studio in London’s Potters Field on Tuesday 15th July. Standing at 10ft tall, the store doubles as a giant Uber Eats delivery bag and trendy sandwich shop. It will be open for lunchtime service between 12.30 – 3pm, with Uber One customers benefitting from a further price drop at just £2.

The new menu comes as research reveals al desko dining has become the new norm among Brits. According to the survey, only 13% of Brits take a full hour for their lunch break whilst 65% admitted to eating lunch at their desk regularly, robbing themselves of the opportunity to unwind. Millennials are the biggest sinners, with over half (51%) saying that they see lunchtime as the perfect time to catch up on work instead of taking the time to have a break ahead of the afternoon.

The menu will also be available for delivery in Manchester and Liverpool between 12pm – 3pm on 17th July and 18th July respectively, ensuring customers around the country can enjoy the new range.

The proceeds of every purchase made are being donated to Uber Eats partner City Harvest, a food redistribution charity. City Harvest rescue nutritious surplus food from farms, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, and deliver it, for free, to over 130,000 people a week via organisations feeding those facing food poverty. City Harvest rescues food, people, and the planet by preventing food waste, providing life-changing support to communities across London through food, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from waste.

Matthew Price, Regional General Manager, Uber Eats, UKI & Northern Europe, said “Whether it’s lunchtime on a Monday or a late-night pick-me-up at the weekend, Uber Eats is here for those moments when you’ve simply done enough. We want to celebrate everyday wins and make great food that little bit more accessible, whenever and wherever you need it.”

“This isn’t about reclaiming the meal deal—we think it’s already a brilliant British staple. We wanted to honour it, put our own spin on it, and celebrate the art of lunch,” said Will Murray, Head Chef and Owner at Fallow Group. “We had a lot of fun creating these recipes, and we hope they bring a bit of joy to people who’ve powered through a long morning.”

“We’ve always believed that flavour shouldn’t be confined to fine dining,” said Jack Croft, Head Chef and Owner at Fallow Group. “Collaborating with Uber Eats to elevate the everyday lunch has been an exciting challenge and one that reflects how we like to eat, too.”
