On 7 June 2023, ground-breaking charity Beyond Food Foundation is bringing together some of London and Brighton’s most exciting breakthrough artists to raise awareness of its mission to support back into work Londoners whose lives are unravelling. The free music showcase is headlined by rising stars Noah and the Loners and takes place from 7pm at The Scoop, More London, with food and drink stalls open from 5pm.

Beyond Food Foundation provides life-changing opportunities to individuals whose lives have unravelled, and people who need vital support and inspiration to grab hold of their life, regardless of their current or past circumstances. The charity uses food as a catalyst to break down barriers. Getting people in the kitchen and the process of cooking creates real connections and provides opportunities for deeper conversations. Over the last two decades, Beyond Food has supported over 7,000 individuals impacted by mental health, addiction, homelessness, and social exclusion, as well as individuals leaving prison, the care service, and young people outside of mainstream education.

Music, like food, can be a powerful tool for promoting mental health and well-being. Research has shown that listening to music can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression and can even improve cognitive function. This exciting music event will help raise awareness of people’s unravelling live and the importance of inclusion, as well as raising much-needed funds to help more people.

Simon Boyle, CEO of Beyond Food said: “Society is very good at unravelling lives. It breaks people, excludes them and then looks away. Nothing to see here. Our vision is different: we choose to see. We choose to look at the people unravelling and help them become who they really are: independent, included and strong. We stand by them and offer support, inspiration and a chance to give life another go.

“We believe in making an actual difference, not using half measures or the occasional charity. And we believe the kitchen is a great place to start: a warm meal, some cooking skills, a new flavour can spark change and build trust. We want to see people thrive, with odds turned in their favour, for once. We want societal change at scale with love, ambition and radical care.

“Our chosen bands are also on a mission to spark real change – one song at a time. Like the Beyond Food team, they offer their fans a strong foothold, an arm around the shoulder and the occasional poke in the ribs for anyone feeling unravelled. They inspire and care, changing individual lives for collective transformation – and everyone’s got a place at our table and in their crowd.”

Unravelling by the River is part of London Bridge City’s Summer by the River series. The event is family-friendly, free to attend and tickets are not required.
