London Transport Museum in Covent Garden is opening its doors after-hours on Friday 16 August for a Museum Late that will mark South Asian Heritage Month.
The event, created in partnership with TfL’s Raising Awareness of Culture and Ethnicity Colleague Network Group (RACE CNG), will feature a lively programme of talks, workshops, crafts and performance inspired by the stories of Londoners
and transport workers from South Asian communities.
Visitors can also enjoy the chance to explore London Transport Museum’s collection free from crowds to see fascinating objects from London’s
transport history up close – from historic buses and trains to early designs of the Tube map.
Tickets to London Transport Museum Lates also include access to the Museum’s exhibitions,
including the
How to Make a Poster exhibition in the Global Poster Gallery – a showcase of stunning commercial poster designs that have graced London’s transport network since 1900.
Event highlights for the
South Asian Stories Late will include:

‘How Round is your Roti?’ talk and workshop. Celebrate this staple of South Asian cuisine – the famous roti (also known as phulka, rotli, chapati) and make
your own following the golden rule: ‘A roti must always be round!’

An Odissi dance performance. Enjoy the spectacle of an ancient Indian classical dance, originating from the temples of the state of Odisha.

A virtual reality experience that will transport you to some of South Asia’s stunning landmarks. Don a VR headset to discover the awe-inspiring Sigiriya
rock fortress in Sri Lanka or Delhi’s majestic Red Fort.

A selection of objects to explore from London Transport Museum’s collection. Discover fascinating items that showcase South Asian stories intersecting with
London’s transport network.

A ‘Design your own moquette’ workshop. Re-imagine London’s iconic Tube seating fabric to create new designs inspired by stories from the capital’s
South Asian community.
