Dr Nagham Saeed of the University of West London (UWL) has been elected Chair of the UK and Ireland Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). The IEEE is the world’s largest professional organisation with over 486,000 members in more than 190 countries.

The IEEE aims to support advances in technology through building and inspiring a global community of engineers. The IEEE UK and Ireland Section is the largest in the world, representing over 11,000 members and Dr Saeed’s term as its Chair will begin in January 2026.

Dr Saeed, Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UWL’s School of Computing and Engineering (SCE), says,

“This is a proud moment for me personally, but also for UWL. The IEEE, in my view, transcends being merely a technical organisation; it is a platform for individuals to transform stories of adversity into tales of triumph, and I am poised to contribute significantly to this narrative.”

Supported by UWL and armed with a fresh outlook and a desire to give back to the communities that supported her, Dr Saeed aims to foster connectivity and support within the Section’s communities.

“I envision growing the IEE communities through collaborating to deliver high-quality conferences, workshops, and events,” she says.
