After a successful launch in 2021, Veolia’s Sustainability Fund is back this year and offering up to £1,000 worth of funding for innovative project ideas to transform local communities across the UK!

This summer, Veolia launched its Sustainability Fund in Westminster, which aims to support projects with funding and resources. Empowering the Westminster community, the fund is in place to support non-profit organisations, community groups, or individuals that help shape their local community. The fund will be open to initiatives that enhance biodiversity, promote sustainable waste behaviours, protect or preserve resources and the environment, use recycled, reused or reclaimed materials, or engage and benefit the local community.

Projects can apply now at veolia.co.uk/sustainability-fund

In 2021 Veolia’s Sustainability Fund received over 100 applications and awarded £27,000 worth of funding to 46 grassroot projects up and down the country, as well as in-kind resources and volunteers. This year, in Westminster, Veolia have already pledged money to three projects:

Queen’s Park Community Clean Up – Since June 2021 the group has been running regular community clean ups with the support of Veolia and Westminster Recycling. These have gained popularity and are now attended by a regular group of volunteers as well as some new faces each time.

Greening St Paul’s Marylebone – A new green space will improve the environment of Rossmore Road, where the church is located. It will attract greater biodiversity, hopefully birds, bees and butterflies. Herbs can be harvested, and local people can connect with nature by enjoying it, and hopefully volunteering to keep it watered and well-maintained.

CauliBox – CauliBox provides award-winning, tech-enabled reuse solutions to disrupt the disposable food packaging market. They connect eco-conscious businesses and customers to embrace reusables, while bringing positive environmental, social, and economic impacts to your local community.

Helder Branco, General Manager for Westminster at Veolia said: “We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Westminster City Council and our commitment to deliver a cleaner, greener city for the Westminster community. After supporting some incredible projects last year, we really want to do even more in 2022. The Sustainability Fund aids local communities, non-profit organisations and individuals who want to make a positive change towards our climate crisis and help us build a more sustainable future.’

Caulibox sponsorship said: “Veolia has been supporting Cauli since the beginning when we were developing our popular reusable scheme at street food markets, providing us with incredible insights into waste management and advice that helped Cauli’s growth and development immensely. We are excited to receive further support from Veolia’s Sustainability Fund, which will be used to develop our CauliCup scheme to enable the circulation, collection, and tracking of reusable cups. This helps us tackle one of the most common food & beverage packaging waste; with over 2.5 bn coffee cups wasted per year in the UK yet only 1 in 400 being recycled, our reusable coffee cup scheme will help our users ditch disposables and make a positive environmental impact.”

Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality at Westminster City Council, said: “I very much welcome this new Sustainable Fund from Veolia which will support our ambition to make Westminster a better, cleaner and safer place to visit and live, in partnership with our local communities. The funding from this project means residents can access local volunteering opportunities, encourage others to recycle, keep our streets clean, as well as create new green spaces for people to enjoy together and connect with nature.”
