Head down to community spot Castle Square in Elephant and Castle on Saturday 1st June from 11am to enjoy the Big Lunch event with friends and family. Perfect for the whole family, take part in artistic workshops, enjoy beautiful music from local groups and fuel your sunny weekend with multicultural food dishes.
Guests can either bring their own picnics or support local traders and purchase lunch. Castle Square residents Coma Y Beba, Daddy O’s, El Guambra, Kaieteur Kitchen and Original Caribbean Spice will all be serving up their signature dishes from around the world for the community to enjoy!
Throughout the day there will be free activities and workshops for everyone to get involved in. Performing pop covers and classics the Babel Brass band will also be entertaining guests and visitors can also enjoy free face painting all day.
IVY Studios will lead guests through creative workshops to design artwork pieces using the theme “Cultural Mosaic.” The workshops will guide the local community to create art pieces that will be scanned and stitched together to create a tapestry for a community planters project, enhancing an area in Elephant and Castle. Locals and Londoners alike can contribute by designing a piece of the planters that will remain for all to see.
The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours and communities, with millions of people coming together for a few hours of friendship, food and fun. It connects people and encourages friendlier, safer communities where people start to share more – conversations, ideas, skills, resources and friendship.
