The public vote for the Greenwich Neighbourhood Growth Fund (GNGF) is now open!
Thirty-five projects have been shortlisted for a wide variety of improvements including replacing playground equipment at a primary school, restoring a mosaic mural on a housing estate, installing energy friendly lighting at a church and urgent roof repairs at a community centre.
You now get the chance to vote for your three favourite projects which you think will have the biggest impact in your community. Residents’ votes will help decide which projects should receive funding.
Cllr Aidan Smith, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “I’m excited to see what projects will be brought forward in this year’s round of funding. This is a great way to support Royal Greenwich’s fantastic community groups. From Friends groups representing our parks to sports clubs and churches, these groups play such an important role in making Royal Greenwich a special place to live.
“I hope residents will take the opportunity to get involved and vote for their local projects. The public vote plays an important part in helping us to choose which projects we can fund with the money available.”
Community groups have submitted bids for just over £559,000 worth of improvements. A total of £331,000 is available in round five of the Greenwich Neighbourhood Growth Fund. The money is provided by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), an initiative which allows councils to raise money from new developments and use it to deliver infrastructure improvements in community facilities and public spaces.
In the previous four rounds of Greenwich Neighbourhood Growth Fund, £1.7 million was awarded to 96 projects throughout the borough, including replacing windows at a play centre, creating a sensory garden for a hospice, providing a community crèche and much more.
Royal Greenwich residents can view a full list of shortlisted projects and vote for their favourites at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/gngf Voting closes on Sunday 12 March at 11.59pm.
