Wandsworth Paralympic Festival: A Celebration of Inclusive Sport at Tooting Bec Athletics Track

0

Wandsworth Council’s Paralympic Festival is a vibrant and inclusive community event, set to take place on Wednesday, August 28th, at the Tooting Bec Athletics Track. Coinciding with the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games, this festival offers a unique opportunity for young people with disabilities, as well as the general public, to engage in an array of Paralympic sports and other inclusive activities. The festival will also feature a performance by the Baked Bean Charity’s Zumba Beans, a sensory area and free food options, making it a fun-filled day for all attendees.

All are invited to join the free event organised by Enable and get the chance to try out Paralympic and inclusive sports. The festival will feature activities run by local groups, including Flyerz Hockey, Disability Sports Coach, Surrey Cricket, Fulham FC Foundation, Live Karma Yoga, and the Baked Bean Charity.

In July, Wandsworth proudly won the ParaGames trophy at the London Youth Games Finals Festival held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the award ceremony, celebrating the achievements of Wandsworth’s pan-disability team, will be held during the festival. The team comprised 76 athletes from ten local schools, including Ark Bolingbroke, Burntwood, and Linden Lodge, who competed in athletics, swimming, football, boccia, and indoor rowing.

This festival is a celebration of the Paralympic spirit and an opportunity to promote inclusive sports within the Wandsworth community. It aims to encourage community participation in adaptive sports and allow people with and without disabilities to explore different inclusive activities available to them locally.
