West London opticians celebrates makeover

NESTLING alongside boutiques, artisan bakeries and delicatessens, this long-standing Shepherds Bush opticians has undergone a significant refit to bring more 21st century technology to the store, plus a more stylish and streamlined shopping experience for customers.

The new back-lit units and wall mounts illuminate the range of 800 frames on display in store, enabling customers to browse easily for their latest pair of stylish glasses, including the recently launched Barbour range and favourites such as Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Viktor & Rolf and Viviene Westwood. The store offers two clinics a day, so local customers can select the best time for them, according to their lifestyle requirements.

The store has been part of the community since 2004 and has become established within the Shepherd’s Bush business community. With the ebb and flow of retailers in recent years, customers can rest assured that their long-standing opticians is on hand should they need a regular sight test or an emergency triage appointment, with an average total of 14 weekly clinics. The store is open seven days a week, including Sunday.

Commenting on the investment and upgrade to the store’s shop-fit out, ophthalmic director Kam Khambay says: ‘The transformation has made such a difference to the look and feel of the store. It is much lighter, more modern and we can really showcase the extensive range of frames we have in stock to our customers.

‘Our latest diagnostic testing equipment provides customers with the opportunity to access hospital-grade equipment here in store, trial contact lenses and be monitored post any cataract surgery.

Specsavers Shepherd’s Bush offers customers access to state-of-the-art pre-room testing diagnostic equipment, including a visual fields analyser and OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) examination. The OCT, which is hospital-grade advanced diagnostic, eye-scanning equipment, helps detect serious eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, up to four years earlier than traditional methods, and currently costs just £10.

The added benefit of the scan is that each customer’s OCT images can be stored, with any changes being observed over time – a real benefit to the monitoring of someone’s overall eye health.

Sajid Patel, ophthalmic director, says: ‘We are very fortunate as we have a large number of loyal customers who have been visiting this store for over 19 years, so it’s great they can enjoy an enhanced shopping experience and have so much choice.

‘Clinical care is important to us, and as a team, we’re looking forward to continuing to deliver the best care and customer service across the community for many years to come.’

An additional service of the store is the provision of shared cataract referral services. A scheme is offered by the NHS, which refers patients to a private hospital via Specsavers Shepherd’s Bush, with the aim of reducing waiting times. The store also offers customers a cataract appointment follow-up, post-surgery, with a multilingual team who can assist patients.

As part of Specsavers’ mission to make eye health accessible to all, it also offers a Home Visits service to those who need it, with mobile opticians covering more than 90% of the UK.
