Weston Homes has been crowned Housebuilder of the Year at the prestigious 2025 WhatHouse? Awards, an event universally regarded as the ‘Oscars of Housebuilding’. In addition to the top honour, Weston Homes also secured an impressive sweep of award wins including Gold for Best Medium House Builder, Gold for Best Energy Efficient Home, Gold for Best Starter Home Scheme and Silver for Best Sustainable Development at the glittering awards ceremony attended by 1,200 industry professionals. This outstanding collection of highly sought-after honours underscores Weston Homes’ reputation as one of the UK’s most forward thinking and accomplished housebuilders.
Weston Homes earned the Housebuilder of the Year title for its exceptional contribution to the industry. Judges praised the company’s proactive industry leadership, community engagement and influence on national housing policy demonstrating this commitment through initiatives ranging from its land acquisition for over £2bn of future development, to launching Weston Partnerships, which has already secured more than £200m in build-to-rent agreements. Judges felt the company’s pioneering British Offsite operations and Horizon MMC factory, particularly the innovative UNisystem, which helps drive efficiency, design flexibility and sustainability, set Weston Homes apart as it advances toward its Carbon Net Zero 2040 goal, marking Weston Homes a truly worthy winner of the sector’s most coveted accolade.
Weston Homes was awarded with Gold in the Best Medium Housebuilder category, in recognition of its people-first ethos, unwavering customer services and commitment to making homeownership more accessible. Judges praised the company’s dedication to its staff through robust training pathways and future-leadership development, as well as its design flair and innovative delivery across a diverse portfolio, from sustainable new communities to its meticulous care and consideration for sensitive heritage restoration. They also highlighted the role of British Offsite and UNisystem in driving construction innovation and energy efficiency, highlighting Weston Homes’ holistic approach to quality and progress.
The Gold award for Best Starter Home was presented for Weston Homes’ multi-award winning, flagship Abbey Quay development in Barking, celebrating the company’s commitment to opening new pathways into homeownership. Judges felt Abbey Quay delivered an exemplary proposition for first-time buyers, combining low entry costs with exceptional service, high-quality finishes and a customer-first approach that genuinely removes barriers to home ownership. They praised the personable and knowledgeable sales team, the reassuring sense of community created through the development’s scale and communal spaces, and the impressive range of off-plan bespoke designer options that offer flexibility and confidence to new buyers.
These attributes build on Weston Homes’ outstanding affordability initiatives, including the innovative Discount Market Sale (DMS) scheme, which enables buyers to own 100% of their home for 80% of the price, and Weston Homes unique First-time Secure Buy (FTSB) scheme, which allows first-time buyers to reserve off-plan for £500 with a 5% deposit and the security of a conditional exchange and full refund of their exchange deposit should circumstances change. Together, these reflect Weston Homes’ deep commitment to supporting aspiring homeowners, with the award win standing as a testimony of the company’s mission to make home ownership truly attainable for first-time buyers.
Weston Homes’ continued drive for sustainable excellence was also recognised at their Thornwood Park development in Epping, which earned Gold for Best Energy Efficient Home and Silver for Best Sustainable Development. The award-winning five-bedroom home ‘The Hawthorn’ impressed judges with its smart combination of energy-saving technologies including solar panels, air source heat pumps, UPVC double glazing, EV charging points and, on selected homes, enhanced 5.2kW battery storage, helping to deliver outstanding performance and long-term environmental benefits. Judges also noted how the home’s airtight construction, high insulation levels and ability to store and use its own PV-generated electricity make it an exemplary model of energy efficiency. These features are strengthened by Weston Homes’ partnership with British Offsite, whose UNihouse and UNisystem light gauge panelised framing systems reduce onsite energy use and speed up construction by up to 60%.
Across the wider Thornwood Park development, judges recognised Weston Homes’ fabric-first construction approach, the use of British Offsite’s UNihouse and UNisystem framing, and the integration of air-source heat pumps, PV panels, battery storage and water-saving technologies in every home, and their inclusion of 40% of homes being delivered as affordable housing. They also praised the development’s thoughtful green infrastructure, including the community orchard and new parkland, which enhances the natural landscape and strengthens the biodiversity of the development’s surrounding area. It was this comprehensive commitment to sustainability and placemaking that earned Thornwood Park the Silver award for Best Sustainable Development.
These landmark award wins collectively underscore Weston Homes’ unparalleled commitment to excellence across every stage of home creation, from visionary design and meticulous planning to sustainable innovation and exceptional place making delivered with flawless execution. Standing out among the UK’s leading developers, Weston Homes continues to push industry standards, delivering homes that blend architectural quality with long-term environmental responsibility, with the 2025 WhatHouse? Awards serving as a powerful testament to Weston Homes’ breadth of expertise, ambition, and delivery, reinforcing its reputation as a sector-shaping force within UK housebuilding.
