After a long and gloomy winter, March is when London starts to come alive. With days getting longer and multiple events to look forward to, your cultural calendar will be packed. So, without further ado, here are some of the most exciting things happening in London this month!
Mother’s Day celebrations (15 March)
Mother’s Day falls on 15th of March this year and London could not be a better place for it! If you’re looking to spoil your mum, this is your chance to go all out – perhaps a spa day or a theatre show and an elegant afternoon tea or a refined dinner? Luxury hotels and high-end restaurants across London will be creating special Mother’s Day menus, often featuring champagne receptions and decadent courses. It’s the perfect excuse to put on a tuxedo or a sparkly dress and celebrate in style!
Country 2 Country Music Festival (13-15 March)
Fans of country music will be excited for the hugely popular Country 2 Country festival, hosted at the O2 Arena from 13th to 15th March. The three-day festival brings some of the biggest names in modern country music to the UK, including Zach Top, Brooks & Dunn, Keith Urban and Scotty McReery, just to name a few. Alongside the arena concerts, nearby venues will be hosting acoustic sessions and artist meet-and-greets.
St Patrick’s Day (15 March)
The colour green will explode in London on the 15th March, as the capital’s Irish community celebrates St Patrick’s Day. The celebration will involve a major free parade from Hyde Park Corner to Trafalgar Square, where the festivities will continue with traditional dance performances, live music shows, food stalls and more. It’s a fantastic atmosphere for families, friends or anyone who wants to celebrate Irish culture!
BFI Flare Film Festival (18-29 March)
For all the cinema lovers, the BFI-Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival is not one to miss. Taking place at BFI Southbank from 18th to 29th March, this internationally recognised festival celebrates LGBTQIA+ storytelling with a diverse programme of films and documentaries from around the world. The festival will screen premiers as well as host director Q&A sessions and industry panels.
The Museum of Edible Earth (18 March – 26 April)
If you like truly unusual experiences, head to the Museum of Edible Earth at the Somerset House. This immersive exhibition, which toured over 20 different countries so far, explores humanity’s long history of eating soil, clay, chalk and other mineral-rich earths. The event invites visitors to learn about the practice as well as get involved in voluntary tasting sessions, challenging their understanding of food and culture.
Schiaparelli at the V&A (from 28 March)
The London Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is set to host a spectacular exhibition “Fashion Becomes Art”, celebrating the legacy of the Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. Known for her eccentric style and surrealism-inspired collaborations, the display will certainly be a feast for the eyes, filled with unexpected shapes and materials. The exhibition is opening doors at the end of the month and will be available for some months to come.
A blooming city
The spring is bringing a superb selection of festivities and exhibitions to London. Let’s hope it also treats us to more sunshine and blooming gardens alongside them!
