E-Commerce, the activity of electronically buying or selling products threw online services was growing rapidly while getting more accepted over the past ears. Services of companies like shopify, Amazon, Etsy and others made it very easy for nearly everyone to establish their own online businesses since there is no coding needed anymore and payment options are made easy threw providers services. Nowadays its definetly possible to start an own online store with less than $200. According to Covit19 people stayed at home, wich creates great opportunity for e-commerce growing further. While ordering everyday items, home workout supplies, boredom killing products etc. the e-commerce market blew up once more. On the right you can see the increasement of online retail visits in billions while first quarter of 2020.
As an example we want to talk about Maximilian Liebermann, a german 20 year old fourth semester costruction management student at the “Bauhaus University” in Weimar, Germany. While a forced study break caused by Covit19, already knowing about e-commerces potential, he established his own company trying to build up two online brands selling customizable phone cases, face masks and neck gaiters. You probably ask yourself how he got the idea of doing so.. here is what he told us:
“About three years ago youtube startet to show myself advertisements of some online coaches trying to sell knowlage for getting rich quickly threw passive income. From where I stand now I can tell that is definetly not the case, but my interest was aroused at that point already. To be honest i didn´t know if, when and how to start. Some day in 2019 i saw an article in some kind of magazin according to the german e-commerce industry providing some insane numbers that made me think further.
During that time there have been running over 800 online shops already according to shopify alone. While black Friday alone those built up a sales volume of 1,5 billion Dollar, devided in average 10.978 orders($870.000) per minute. The last seven years before shopify was able to raise its impact about 83% each year conquering country by country. This growth is faszinating when considering the platform was aiming to sell snowboards in the first place. In 2020 the worldwide amount of stores increased to about 500.000 active stores worldwide. I decided to hop on the train and soon after Covit19 broke out and i knew to better hurry in order to start my thing since there are going to build up massive opportunities when people won´t be able to go to work, getting bored and local shops are forced to close. It would be a fatal waste of a lifetime chance not trying it so i took the challenge.
I started watching youtube videos from scratch since i didn´t want to pay for ´overpriced´ coaches, which i don’t think of much to be honest since in my opinion 99% of them are providing egoistic money collecting programs without any value.
Out of all information being able to find i put the usable parts together, made mistakes, learned out of it but never gave up until it slightly started working. You can probably imagine me walking around a lot of obstacles because none of the e-commerce successful youtubers would give out fully free & quality information about how they got successful. I mean none of them wants people to exactly copy what is working for them stealing their sales. In spite of all that every problem found its solution. While my journy i firstly realised how transparent and insecure our privacy is being online. I for example discovered being able to follow, live spectate and replay interactions that are made of potential customers while browsing. Threw individual terms of use all that is legal so far and i got some additional flair about how worthy data can be when it comes to generating sales, leading people threw your store and converting potential customers into clients. An example is how to feed a massive platforms algorithm with the right data in order to show up on peoples screens devided by devices, fitting into your niche and at the same time being willing to purchase? According to baby products a mid aged woman is probably interested into children, but if she doesn’t have some herself she wont buy, what makes you advertise for no reason even with getting frequent store traffic. All that really catched my ambition making me sit infront of the Computer all night and sleeping till mid day after. I am glad that everything worked out and can tell there is still room for newcomers in e-commerce. I think Covit19 kind of caused the final blow to conventional retail with at the same time making people more critical when it comes to outsourcing and globalisation. But as history shows society will adjust according to circumstances”.
As a conclusion we can tell benefitting from Covit19 isn´t easy but defenitly possible!
