This winter, WWT London Wetland Centre is offering the perfect place to unwind, reconnect with nature and enjoy a programme of festive family activities.
A survey of 2,000 adults, conducted by WWT, shows that over a quarter of people (28%) are seeking walks near water this winter, drawn to the calming effect of lakes, ponds and wetlands. Just ten minutes in these “blue spaces” can boost mood, and at WWT London, visitors can pair that calm with festive, family-friendly activities.
Throughout December, families can enjoy Festive Family Fun Days every weekend from 6 to 21 December, featuring marshmallow toasting, gingerbread decorating, storytelling, face painting and hands-on otter enrichment. Give a Gift to Nature workshops run from 6 December to 4 January, letting visitors craft seeded thank-you cards and pinecone bird feeders.
In addition, WWT London offers wellbeing-focused workshops for adults: the Cyanotype Printmaking Workshop on 6 December lets participants create blue-and-white botanical prints while learning about seasonal plants, and the Sip and Paint Workshop on 20 December invites visitors to unwind with paint and a warm drink. Both experiences encourage creativity, mindfulness and connection with the wetlands.
Special seasonal highlights add extra festive sparkle on selected days, including Gospel Choir performances on 13 & 14 December and Bubbleologist appearances on 6, 7, 20 & 21 December.
Speaking about the season ahead, Alexia Hollinshead said: “Winter here is all about space, calm and connection. Whether families join us for a festive workshop or simply take a quiet walk by the water, the wetlands give people room to breathe and reset.”
Winter also brings thousands of migratory birds, turning WWT London into a peaceful winter wonderland of swans, geese and frosty skies. With nearly 60% of people naming Boxing Day as their favourite day to get outside, a wander at the wetlands (whether for a quiet walk or seasonal activities) offers the perfect post-Christmas reset.
Normal admission applies, with free entry for WWT members. Small charges apply for some activities.
