WWT London Wetland Centre announces new community art project

WWT London Wetland Centre is inviting the local community to help brighten its walls with mosaic art.

The wetland centre is running two drop-in sessions in collaboration with London’s award-winning community arts centre Art4Space later this month, for visitors to make their own ceramic and mosaic pieces that will become part of a new mural at the reserve.

The sessions will also give guests an opportunity to learn more about mosaic-making – including cutting, pattern and colour – as well as how to mould, print and smooth shapes with clay.

Alexia Hollinshead, General Manager at WWT London Wetland Centre, said: “We’re giving the walls here at WWT London Wetland Centre a new look with a large, beautiful mosaic dragonfly – and we would love the community’s help.

“This is a special opportunity for people to become part of our history and have fun collaborating with others to create something that promises to stun visitors to WWT London Wetland Centre for years to come.”

Those wishing to get involved are invited to drop into WWT London Wetland Centre between 10am and 12pm, or 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 26 July. Both sessions are open to all ages and abilities, and included within the price of admission to WWT London Wetland Centre.
