A dazzling line-up of dragonfly-themed activities is ready to be discovered at WWT London Wetland Centre this summer, as part of its first-ever WWT Dragonfly Festival.

Running from 21 June until 22 September, WWT London Wetland Centre’s summer-long celebration of dragonflies promises an unforgettable day out whilst learning more about the natural world.

Every day throughout summer, festival goers will be able to enjoy a dragonfly foot safari, macro photography exhibition and an interactive trail covering the dragonfly lifecycle across six stops – each with their own challenges to complete and superpower badges to collect. Plus, pond dipping, chalk art and mini beast hunting on weekends only.

There will be extra festival activities happening at WWT London Wetland Centre during school holidays, including storytelling sessions, dragonfly-themed creative workshops and dragonfly mobile making every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

Added to this, dragonfly stilt walkers will descend on WWT London Wetland Centre for the August bank holiday weekend, where festival goers will also be able to enjoy ‘The Insect Circus’ string theatre performances and face painting.

As well as the activities, WWT London Wetland Centre will be decorating its site to help visitors get into the festival spirit with colourful flags created by the local community.

Further memory-making moments and spectacular headline events will be announced on WWT London Wetland Centre’s website as the festival continues, so that everyone can revisit and continue the festival fun all summer long.

Alexia Hollinshead, General Manager at WWT London Wetland Centre, said: “Dragonflies play an important role in our wetland ecosystems, so a summer-long festival is a fitting way to celebrate these dazzling creatures of the natural world.

“We have a wonderful line-up of exciting, fun activities and hope that many will take this opportunity to enjoy everything on offer. Our hotly anticipated Splash Pad – a new play area, featuring water tunnels, multiple spurts, fountains, interactive puddles and a rain shower – will be ready for some splashing fun too.”

Adam Salmon, Senior Reserve Warden at WWT London Wetland Centre, added: “Dragonflies are the stars of WWT sites during the summer months, and WWT London Wetland Centre is an official British Dragonfly Society Hotspot with more than 20 exquisite species for visitors to encounter.

“Our inaugural Dragonfly Festive offers a great opportunity to not only have lots of fun this summer, but to also learn everything there is to know about these wondrous winged insects and the wetlands we passionately protect, for them and all the other amazing creatures that thrive here.”

All Dragonfly Festival activities will be included in the price of admission or free to WWT members and children under three. More information, including further line-up announcements and reduced price ticket availability can be found at https://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/london.
