Young entrepreneurs to bring business ideas to life at Christmas market

Budding entrepreneurs have the chance to bring their business dream to life. The Youth Enterprise Programme – being delivered in collaboration with Royal Borough of Greenwich, training provider Academy of Success, and homebuilder and local employer Berkeley – is a six-week programme for people aged 18 to 25 to gain the skills and knowledge to launch their concept.

At the end of the six weeks, ten entrepreneurs will take their business idea to market and debut at the new chalet-style Christmas stalls in Beresford Square in the heart of Woolwich.

The programme starts on 20 October with in-person sessions held every Monday until 24 November. The sessions will cover confidence and mindset, research and planning, basic business set up and finances, branding and social media, preparing to trade and trading skills.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills and Greenwich Supports said: “The Youth Enterprise Programme is a fantastic opportunity. Not only will young entrepreneurs learn the basics of business and join a like-minded community, but they could even run a stall at our vibrant and popular Christmas market. We are committed to supporting local enterprise, so we thank Berkeley for their investment and Academy of Success for delivering the learning. I have no doubt that the Youth Enterprise Programme will produce some great up-and-coming business talent.”

Paul Prichard, Development Director at Berkeley Capital said: “This programme will give local young people real-world business skills to kickstart their business careers. We share the council’s passion for nurturing talent in Greenwich and are proud of the positive impact we’re driving together.”

Dionne Ruddock, Director at Academy of Success said: “At the Academy of Success, we believe in creating opportunities that change lives. This programme will guide young people on their journey into business, equipping them with the knowledge, confidence, and real-world experience to succeed with their first opportunity to trade at the Christmas market, a true celebration of enterprise, creativity, and community.”

Anyone wishing to join the programme needs to attend the Discovery Day at the Academy of Success, based at Equitable House in Woolwich, on Thursday 9 October. To book a place, please visit: royalgreenwich.gov.uk/youth-enterprise-discovery.
