Royal biographer Tom Bower has said he does not believe the Prince and Princess of Wales will be willing to reconcile with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Speaking on GB News, he said: “I think he’s absolutely desperate for reconciliation, and it’s absolutely pathetic that he sent his spokesman out to say that it wasn’t meant to be reconciliation with his brother and father.
“I mean, who else should he be reconciled with? And that was quite clear from the interview when you read the transcript.
“He’s desperate because he’s isolated because he’s failed in America. He’s miserable there. He’s come back to England to try and resurrect his status as a member of the Royal Family, and they’ve shut him out.
“He makes calls, and then they don’t reply, and so he appeals to them through GQ, of all places, and it’s just absolutely the beginning of the end for him. He clearly can’t take being alone and isolated, and realises finally, perhaps, what a terrible mistake he’s made.
“The problem with Harry is that he’s terribly arrogant and not very clever, and he really does think he is owed apology, still. He can’t understand that it’s he who has caused the upset. It’s he who has behaved appalling in his betrayal of the Royal Family by taking millions and millions of pounds for his autobiography and appearing on Netflix and all the rest.
“And the real problem is that until he understands that he is to blame, as is of course Meghan; that the two of them have behaved disgracefully and they’ve come back to Britain, we all know, because they’re desperate as failures now in California, he’s just going to have to start apologising.
“But I don’t think that’s going to be enough. I’d be very surprised if Prince William and Catherine were willing to let bygones be bygones. He’s just been far too rude and far too aggressive, and far too defamatory of them to want to ever sit in a room with him again.
“I mean, he has a major problem, and I think that’s what’s shown by his pathetic appeal now for reconciliation, it really is utterly pathetic.
“You haven’t heard him [apologise] because he insists that he is owed the apology by William and by the King and by the Queen and by everybody else and by Britain. I mean, that’s the problem with Harry. He’s living in la la land.
“Of course, it’s all fuelled by his wife, who is still a woman of extraordinary ambition, desperate for revenge herself, dislikes Britain intensely, but has nevertheless come back because she has no alternative, because she has got no career in America anymore, and drops the ridiculous story that she was going to be appearing in The Gentleman.
“I mean, it is really an amazing twist in this remarkable saga, and it’s something that we could enjoy if it wasn’t that it’s actually undermining the credibility and the status of the Royal Family.
“After all, he pushed out this interview today on the very day that the King was receiving the Sultan of Oman. It was a very big event for the palace, but instead of the Sultan of Oman and the King and the Queen and William and everything getting the headlines, once again the Sussexes push themselves into the media, push themselves to the top of the agenda.
“Of course they’re going to do that all the time. They are actually causing a great crisis for our Royal Family.
“I think what they’re going to do is they’re constantly looking to be in the media, they’re constantly looking to be in the spotlight. The couple who fled England in search of their privacy have come back to invade their own privacy…
“So last week it was Nottingham. We’ve started the week now with this GQ interview. There’s bound to be another appearance before the end of the week. Meghan is bound to post some more Instagrams of herself and her children.
“They can’t do enough, and unfortunately, every time they do it, it is at the cost of the monarchy. At some stage, the King is going to have to call his son through, probably, the Lord Chamberlain and give him a very, very stern warning that his behaviour has consequences, and in the end, it’ll have to be draconian if he doesn’t stop this ridiculous pantomime.
“It is a ridiculous pantomime, constantly appearing, constantly bleating, constantly pretending that they’re members of the Royal Family, working roles or whatever, briefing newspapers about their status. It is really, it’s become a congenital disease for them, and it’s got to be brought to an end.”
