UWL’s Institute for Policing Studies was delighted to host a group of 16 delegates from the Unit of Police Work at Umeå University, Sweden on Thursday 22 January.

The IPS ran a one-day workshop during which academics from both institutions shared experience in policing and police education as well as best practices.

Andy Rose, Head of the Institute for Policing Studies, commented:

“This was an invaluable and insightful day. During the workshop sessions, it was clear that academia and policing in the UK and Sweden face similar challenges but, more importantly, exciting opportunities in the coming years. We look forward to maintaining a strong relationship with our guests from Umeå University over the coming months and years.”

Daniel Skog, Director of the Unit of Police Work at Umeå University, also expressed his appreciation for the visit:

“The visit to the Institute for Policing Studies was rewarding and inspiring. The discussions gave us valuable insights into how police education is approached in a different national context and provided a useful mirror for reflecting on our own programme. We appreciate the professionalism and openness shown by our hosts and look forward to staying in contact as our cooperation develops.”
