Winging it for a cause! Birds Eye’s Chicken Shop has joined Alex Horne’s Comedy Football Trophy as team sponsor of ‘Chicken City’ ahead of their game against ‘Egg United’, marking the first time in the event’s history that both teams have secured official brand backing.

Taskmaster creator and comedian Alex Horne is bringing his much-loved Comedy Football Trophy back to The Meadow, home of Chesham United, on Saturday 16th May. Fans can still expect an afternoon of comedic pandemonium and footballing fun, all in the name of a good cause, with ticket sales from the day supporting charities Slough Homeless Our Concern and Thames Valley Adventure Playground.

In a crackingly good development, this year, FREE (Free Range Ethical Eggs) will sponsor Chicken City’s rival team, Egg United, meaning both sides will take to the pitch with dedicated partners for the first time.

Playing to answer the age-old question of which comes first, the chicken or the egg, Birds Eye’s Chicken Shop will be fuelling wingers, midfielders, strikers and goalies alike up the pitch with its Chicken Shop Wings.

Claire Sutton, Marketing Director at Birds Eye, said: “When Chicken City came calling, we didn’t hesitate, they play with heart and humour, which suits us perfectly. We feel their wing play will crack the opposition’s defence and we fully expect them to rise to the occasion, or at least be the best-fed team on the pitch.”

Gemmah Way, Creative & Marketing Manager at FREE, said: “At FREE, we like to think our hens are excellent judges of character – so when an event combines football, comedy, and a healthy disregard for both, we knew we had to get involved. It’s exactly the sort of joyful nonsense the world needs more of. We’re delighted to support an afternoon where the only thing more scrambled than the play might be the rules and for a great cause to boot”

Alex Horne, creator of the Comedy Football Trophy, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have two incredible team partners in Birds Eye Chicken Shop and FREE, and alongside our new event sponsor Nest Pensions it makes a terrific family of sponsors. We’re ready and excited for a fun day!”

The day is set to be no yolk, so football, food and comedy fanatics alike can get their claws on tickets by heading to https://cheshamunited.co.uk/comedy-football-trophy-2026/ now. Tickets are limited and walkup sales won’t be available on the day, so get cracking!
