Londoners are invited to discover their summer read this month as Amazon’s Kindle Storyteller Award brings the UK’s first open-air library dedicated to self-published books to Victoria Park for one weekend only.
Open from 31st July to 1st August, the free pop-up library will offer passersby the chance to browse and borrow a book for an afternoon of reading in one of the city’s most loved green spaces. Nestled beside Victoria Park’s iconic bandstand, book lovers will be encouraged to discover new independent literary voices, and even leave inspired to pen their own.
Featuring a curated collection of titles exclusively from self-published authors, the open-air library will celebrate the creativity and diversity of independent storytelling, and how self-publishing is quite literally open to everyone, regardless of their background. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Kindle Storyteller Award, the shelves will be stacked with novels from past winners, alongside notable self-published titles from the likes of Colleen Hoover and Frieda McFadden, who first built their careers as independent authors.

The Kindle Storyteller Award is Amazon’s annual £20,000 literary prize celebrating the best self-published book of the year. Entries for the tenth year of the Award are open until 31st August and Amazon welcomes authors of any age, genre or background to enter by publishing their book through Kindle Direct Publishing.
Since 2016, the award has received over 70,000 entries, with 2025 being a record-breaking year of submissions. In celebration of the 10th anniversary, alongside the prize fund, the winner will receive a bespoke visual campaign for their winning title in or around their hometown, and each of the chosen shortlisted authors will receive a limited-edition print edition of their book.
