art-K, the UK’s leading provider of high street art classes for children aged between six to sixteen, is opening a new dedicated art studio in Melbourne Grove, Dulwich, for lessons taught by Art Leader Laura Hutchins.

Laura has worked with art-K for several years, both as a teaching assistant and external mural artist, and clinched the role through her optimistic and welcoming personality shining through the recruitment process. She has recently completed her art degrees at Nottingham Trent University in Textile Design, at University of the Arts, London in Art Management, and University for the Creative Arts, London, for her Art Foundation.

Her contribution to public art can be seen at the Wandsworth Southside Shopping centre where a recent mural was commissioned to highlight steps taken to reduce emissions and the carbon footprint.

The art-K Dulwich studio will offer classes after-school weekdays and all day Saturday, giving children the opportunity to learn new art skills and develop their confidence across a spectrum of styles and mediums.

The new studio will open on 25th October 2021, with a series of holiday workshops covering the Half Term break. Running Monday 25th to Friday 29th October, these workshops are a combination of 2-hour art courses, exploring projects across mediums including paper sculpture, clay, mixed media, watercolour and acrylics. Each project is individual and at the end of each session will see children go home with a finished piece of artwork.

The studio offers Autumn Term sessions starting from Tuesday 2nd November, running until Friday 17th December.

art-K Managing Director Emily Harper said, “We are very excited to launch our new classes in Dulwich – the location is home to the world-renowned Dulwich Picture Gallery with its collection of Old Masters. However, our focus is fostering the development of art skills in the next generation – the ‘Young Masters’ – in a safe space for channeling their creativity.”

Laura Hutchins said, “I am very much looking forward to bringing my experiences from other art-K branches to Dulwich, to encourage children to enjoy the artistic process in a way that suits them as individuals.”
