Beavertown Brewery launch sunlight activated beer mats revealing hidden walking trails across the UK this Bank Holiday

The great British pub walk is getting an injection of the weird and wonderful this bank holiday, as Beavertown Brewery hides secret maps in pubs around the UK – in a place you’d never suspect.

Over the long weekend, the brewery will swap out their classic beer mats for UV activated ones – that when held up to the sun, reveal a series of invisible routes to take punters on a journey of hidden destinations, from ancient burial sites to stone circles.

Research commissioned by the brewery* has found that a whopping 72% of UK adults love to go for a local ramble – but as it turns out, they’re not taking very much in, with over half (51%) admitting to being completely unaware of historical landmarks in their own hometown.

The new bar mats that will be hidden in pubs in six UK cities, will encourage punters to head outside this bank holiday and uncover more about their area’s hidden histories, with trails that reveal destinations from crypts, ancient cemeteries, viking murals and friar-made sandstone caves all the way to the grave of Eleanor Rigby and the grafts of Isaac Newton’s apple tree.

Tom Rainsford, Marketing Director of Beavertown Brewery said, ‘Working a ‘pint stop’ into a walk with a mate is something we all love, in fact, our research has shown that more than half UK adults (53%) like to treat themselves to a trip to the pub after a walk. This bank holiday we wanted to add a touch of mystery and lore to your pub walk, with our UV beer maps. So grab your walking boots, finish your pint of Neck Oil and discover that the secret maps hidden in your local pubs aren’t the only things to be uncovered in your hometown this weekend.’

Beavertown’s beer maps will be launching in participating pubs listed below in London, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Bath and Glasgow this August Bank Holiday weekend. One UV beer mat will be given out with every purchase of a pint of Beavertown’s Neck Oil IPA from Saturday 25th August – Monday 28th August until stocks last.
