Brixton Village announces Summer Programme

Brixton Village is pleased to announce its summer programme, with multiple events and activations taking place through the South London culinary hub from now until September, including a barbecue cookout, musical performances, and much more.

Brixton Performs – Wednesday 28th July

As part of Brixton Performs, the South London festival programming music and comedy across Brixton Institutions, Brixton Village will be joined by Siskia Barnes, south london comedian as well as a roster of musicians playing throughout the village on 28th July. Musicians include musical collective led by musician Tyler, and Soho Radio resident Avenhue.

Caroline Chinakwe’s exhibition – Thursday 29th July- Saturday 31st July

On Thursday 29th July, the fast progressing contemporary, Afro Lux art and lifestyle brand, CHINAKWE, by Nigeria born and UK based, self taught, mixed media artist Caroline Chinakwe, will be hosting a FREE exhibition and event for the artist’s new series – ‘Colourism’, at Brxtn Studios.

Barbecue Cookout at Brixton Village – Saturday 31st July

On Saturday 31st July, Brixton Village will be hosting a barbecue cookout in the courtyard with some of the Village’s fire loving tenants popping up with grab and go stalls, serving dishes cooked over flames to be enjoyed in the sunshine. Tenants taking to the helm of the barbecue over the weekend will be: Brixton Village stalwart Fish, Wings & Tings, barbecue specialists The Joint, and jerk experts Rudie’s Jerk Shack, from Matin and Michelle Miah. To keep the party going throughout the day,, there will also be musical entertainment from The Handson Family, the DJ duo from husband and wife Cyndia Anafo and Chris Ellis, Soul Night Remember The Times, and DJ Glade Marie.

On top of that, sustainable drinks leaders The Natural Bar Company will be popping up in the courtyard for the duration of July with Sustainable Serves at Brixton Village, serving up reduced sugar content mixers, CBD infused drinks and high quality spirits. Furthermore, The Natural Bar will be hosting live music throughout the month.

Jamaican Independence Day – 6th August

To celebrate Jamaican Independence Day on 6th August, and pay homage to the influence Jamaican culture and Brixton’s Jamaican residents have had on the area, there will be musical acts programmed throughout the village including Shabba Party, in collaboration with VP Records, the world’s leading Reggae & Dancehall record label. Some of the DJs Shabba Party will be bringing along include Rebel Clash (Rinse FM), Pharaoh G & Kash Jones (Reprezent Radio), and Jordss (Rinse FM). On top of this, guests will be able to enjoy one of the many Jamacian influenced restaurants that have their home there, including Rudie’s, Eat of Eden, Healthy Eaters, and Oracle Juice Bar, and some Jamaican inspired cocktails in the courtyard.

Summer of Music with Brixton Village Lates

As one of South London’s best alfresco dining spots, Brixton Village is delighted to announce the return of Brixton Village Lates for another summer of exciting music that will see a blend of live music and DJ performances for all to enjoy outdoors.

Stretching out into the sunshine, the Brixton Village courtyard makes the most of the longer days and warmer weather, with further seating dotted throughout the markets’ vibrant avenues. Pair these with Brixton Village Lates setting the soundtrack to your summer, and you have the perfect recipe for alfresco fun.

Music highlights include Just Vibez – the collective of Caribbean DJs and MCs who have fast become the pied pipers of the Soca Dance in London, Filipino Funk & Soul from Pinoy Grooves, original Soul II Soul DJ Aitch B, sweet sweet Palm Wine sunshine music from Zezi Ifore, and producer & MC T-Roy and Mark Force of Bugz In The Attic fame, to name a few.

Best Bites of Brixton – 28th – 29th August

To wrap up the Summer programme at Brixton Village, the village will be hosting Best Bites at Brixton on 28th and 29th August; a foodie festival that celebrates the quality and diversity of the F&B offering at Brixton Village and the different tenants that have helped in making it the culinary destination it is now. More details to be released later this year.
