Brixton Village has announced it will reopen its markets in line with government guidelines on Monday 15 June. With new social distancing and hygiene measures to be rolled out across the markets, Brixton Village has outlined detailed plans to support retailers and visitors navigate the new normal.
Plans include increased cleaning protocols; additional security; new signage across the market including high levels, entry posters, floor markers and informational wayfinding to help visitors navigate safely around Brixton Village once non-essential shops reopen on Monday 15 June. The new measures have been set up to ensure shoppers have a pleasant experience while respecting others and staying safe.
Brixton Village will see the return of much loved stores including: homeware and plant store Brixton Cornercopia, jewellery designer Full Moon Designs, handbag designer and artisan Ismad, and Suneeta Cosmetics – the natural skincare brand selling vegan and sustainable beauty products in the markets, to name a few.
What’s more, face masks will be available to purchase in the market with all money raised going to the NHS. Originally conceived as a tenant initiative and made with fabrics supplied by tenants, the single layer masks are available for £6, and double layer for £8 – all made from 100% cotton and washable fabric.
The markets’ independent grocers, fishmongers, bakers and butchers – who remained open throughout the lockdown, will continue to operate in line with government guidelines to provide fresh supplies to the local community. These include: Brixton Foodland, Jeffries Fishmonger, Esme’s, Ramzeys Fishmonger, Dombey Butcher, Philips Butcher, Ilias Fish Shop, Faiz Foodstore, Latin and Caribbean Food Store, and more.
Diana Nabagereka, General Manager of Brixton Village said: “It is vital that our local community re-joins us as more of our retailers at Brixton Village open in the coming weeks. Locals and those coming from further afield can return and support the traders comfortably, knowing steps are being taken to keep our guests safe. We look forward to welcoming you back.”
As the focus now returns on rebuilding the retail and hospitality industry, Brixton Village have also announced that all traders in the market will be offered a three-month rent holiday to help them get back on their feet.
