London’s famous Camden Market today announces plans to develop a 32-metre observation wheel opening in 2022. The wheel will provide local Londoners with incredible views of Regents Canal, as well as sights from Paddington in the West, to Limehouse in the East.

Located in the Market’s West Yard, the observation wheel will feature a number of glass pods each themed on a musical artist or genre that depicts Camden’s iconic music heritage. Whether as an exciting activity for families to take in the sights of their home city, or tourists to capture unrivalled views of the capital, the observation wheel is a unique addition to the North London neighbourhood.

The latest proposals from Camden Market owners LabTech, designed the plans so as to encourage more visitors to Camden Town, and provide a boost to the local businesses Covid recovery, whilst enhancing the eclectic mix of small independent retailers.

Part of LabTech’s work to enhance and evolve the area, the move is set to capture the imagination of a wider London audience, attracting people of all ages and diversifying visitors to the markets.

In addition to the wheel, plans include the opening and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Dead Dog Basin and East Vaults, which have never been accessible to the public before. They will be used to host exhibitions and cultural events.

Commenting on the upcoming opening, Maggie Milosavljevic, Commercial Director at LabTech said: “For the last 46 years, Camden Market has always been regarded as the cultural landmark of the North London landscape. It has made a significant contribution to contemporary London culture, spanning the worlds of film and television, music and events, arts, crafts and fashion. The launch of the observation wheel will further cement Camden’s pledge to support local businesses and enhance its role as a leading destination for culture in London.”

“We will soon be sharing our vision with all those who live, work and visit the area in order to get their feedback on our plans before a planning application is submitted later this year.”

In addition to the wheel, Camden Market owner LabTech is set to reveal a series of other experiential activations in 2022.
