COLLEAGUES from across the London region joined forces to raise much-needed funds for two leading children’s charities, the National Deaf Children’s Society and the Royal Society for Blind Children.

In total, store directors and team members from 22 Specsavers stores situated in North, South, East and West London, and the City at Bishopsgate, came together at Specsavers Kilburn to put their best feet forward for the worthy charities who offer support to children in need.

Lead organiser Parus Pindoria, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Kilburn, says: ‘This walk is an opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference. Every pound raised goes towards a child gaining confidence, a young person pursuing their ambitions, and a family receiving the support they need. Both charities are transforming lives each and every day, and this is our way of being part of that journey’.

‘My business partner Nimesh and I are very grateful to the donations we have received from family, friends and Specsavers colleagues.’

The 30-mile charity walk included visiting stores in Queensway, Fulham, Pimlico, Strand and mid-City at Holborn and Tottenham Court Road, and onwards to the East End where they stopped at Specsavers Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Dalston Cross and Hackney before concluding in North London at Specsavers Golders Green.

To date, the team has raised over £2,600, which will be split between the two charities to provide invaluable support, advice and a network of professionals to assist those children who may have hearing loss, deafness or sight conditions.

Customers of Specsavers Kilburn benefit from state-of-the-art equipment, including an optical coherence tomography (OCT) machine. The 3D scan is an advanced diagnostic, eye-scanning equipment that can help detect eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, up to four years earlier than traditional methods. Currently this diagnostic test is on offer at an additional £5.

A dedicated audiology centre offers a soundproof booth for customers to have their hearing checked, coupled with the latest micro-suction equipment for wax removal.

There are now seven consulting rooms, two diagnostic testing areas and a contact lens station offering enhanced facilities to customers.

Specsavers recommend that adults have an eye test at least every two years, and children should visit every year. The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies. All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS-funded eye test.
