Classic British dishes given a sweet-toothed makeover for East Village food market series

Fans of weird and wonderful foods will be able to try three absurdly delicious new doughnuts at a new East London food market series this weekend. East Village, the former Athletes’ Village, has partnered with Urban Food Festival to create sweet treats based on classic British dishes, inspired by this month’s Jubilee celebrations.

A fish and chip variety sees a glazed ring doughnut stacked with battered cod, chunky chips and smothered in maple syrup, while a toad in the hole doughnut boasts a sausage, miniature Yorkshire pudding and sweet gravy dip. Lastly, a roast dinner doughnut offers a feast of potato, juicy chicken and stuffing.

There will be 250 doughnuts available for free on a first come, first served basis.

The food market is taking place along Victory Parade in East Village on Saturday from 11am to 5pm, and there’s plenty more on offer for those who might not fancy such an unusual bite.

Food stalls will offer delectable international cuisine, including Chicago pizza, Spanish tapas and Vietnamese noodles, while drinks trucks will be on hand to offer vodka watermelon raspberry coolers, rum punch and elderflower gin and tonics.

On the day, East Village will also have a scavenger hunt, where there will be 50 tokens placed around the neighbourhood for residents and visitors to find and redeem two drinks from the bar (non-alcoholic options will be available).

Eoin Thomas, Community and Events Manager at Get Living’s East Village, said: “Following on from the big Jubilee celebrations we’ll be serving up some classic British dishes with a very unusual twist to kick-off East Village’s food markets this June.

“We’re also looking forward to a summer packed full of resident and community events. Coming up, Get Living is supporting a Drag Show Extravaganza for Pride, a 7-a-side community football tournament, an Olympic Family Fun Day marking the ten year anniversary of the London Games, a traditional summer fete, alongside various creative workshops at The Lab E20.”

The next food market will take place on Saturday 25 June. Head to the Get Living events page for more information.

Fully furnished homes at the thriving East Village neighbourhood are available to rent through Get Living. All residents have access to events and pop ups at East Village, as well as a fun-filled calendar of community events and groups across the neighbourhood.

Other amenities in the neighbourhood include a range of restaurants and cafes, over 25 acres of green space to explore, and even the chance to get exclusive benefits such as the opportunity to win tickets to the London Stadium’s events, with Get Living being the official lifestyle partner this year. Get Living provides an on-site relationship management and maintenance team who respond to queries as well as a 24/7 security team.
