Paulo Dybala will enter the summer transfer market as a free agent after playing his final game for Juventus. The creative and technically brilliant sharpshooter will attract a lot of interest, with Arsenal being a potential destination.
The Gunners are in desperate need of a world class forward, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having left the club for Barcelona in January. Alexandre Lacazette is also due to leave the Emirates, meaning that Mikel Arteta will be short of options up top.
Dybala Says Teary Goodbye to Juventus Fans
Dybala was pictured crying his eyes out after playing his final match for Juventus in the final home game of the season against Lazio. The Argentine forward had felt the magic of the diehard Italian fans who make up the fourth-largest support of a football club in the world. Their popularity is highlighted in a study from ExpressVPN, which found that Juventus was the most used password in Italy. That shows that the team’s name is never far from the minds of many Italians.
Dybala will certainly be missed at the Allianz Stadium, as his seven-year tenure with the club has been a hugely successful one. He scored 115 goals in 291 appearances for the Old Lady and won Serie A five times. The club opted not to renew Dybala’s contract, with plans of evolution and an attack built around Dušan Vlahović.
Silky Style Could Suit the Gunners
Arteta likes to play with an interchangeable forward line and prefers strikers that can occupy several attacking roles. Dybala fits the bill in this regard as he is known to have played as a striker and an attacking midfielder. He can play on the left, right, or centrally, and can also operate in a front two or as a lone striker.
Arsenal have enjoyed a reasonably successful evolution under Arteta and are beginning to look like a team that can regularly challenge for the top four. The Spaniard has developed and successfully integrated certain players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, but these 20-year-olds could use a more experienced player alongside them up front.
They also need someone who can put in more goal contributions over the course of the season. Lacazette only managed four goals in 2021-22 and has never bagged more than 14 in a single campaign for Arsenal, based on the stats on Transfermarkt. Saka has been the biggest goal threat this term with 11, while Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Ødegaard, and Martinelli contributed 10, six, and five respectively.
Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United will be making big moves in the summer, and Arsenal need to act well in the transfer market if they want to be able to compete with their main rivals for those coveted Champions League spots.
Dybala looks like the ideal addition, and there have already been talks between the player and the club, as covered in detail by The Mirror. The question is whether the Gunners will be able to hold off interest from other massive teams including Inter Milan, Roma, and Paris Saint-Germain.
