The City will play host to an exciting Twenty20 Cricket match this July, when The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman William Russell takes on his brother, actor Damian Lewis OBE, in what is sure to be a thrilling match.

The charity event in aid of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal will see the Lord Mayor and Damian Lewis captain opposing sides, the Lord Mayor’s XI and Bobby Axelrod’s XI, for a bit of friendly family rivalry.

The captains will be joined by a selection of top sportsmen and friends for the event which is taking place within the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company, a unique and stunning backdrop, which showcases the historic Armoury House and buildings right in the centre of the City.

Amongst those watching the action on the day include cricket greats David Gower, Michael Holding and Jonathan Agnew and you could be joining them. Anyone is able to come along to watch the match simply by purchasing a ticket from the events section at www.thelordmayorsappeal.org/events

Alongside a great game of Cricket to watch, which is comprised of two innings, there will also be a BBQ lunch afterwards, a pay bar and other fun opportunities throughout the day to keep the whole family entertained. It is the perfect day out for sporting fans, friends and families, with under 12’s able to come along for free.

Lord Mayor William Russell commented “I am very much looking forward to this charity match in aid of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Not only will it be a fun day out for all the family, but it will also be helping to raise important funds for our four charities. Hopefully the match will provide some good sporting entertainment as well as a bit of friendly family rivalry.”

Damian Lewis, OBE, “My brother and I have grown up together enjoying both playing and watching cricket and I think we are both looking forward to getting back out on the pitch, and raising some money for the charities. My team, Bobby Axelrod’s 11, are getting in their practice now so we will be ready and raring to go!”

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s four chosen charities, Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones, Samaritans and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will benefit from the funds raised via the event. These inspirational charities all deliver ground breaking programmes which not only change people’s lives, but also save them.
