An animal rescue charity in Watford has won a prize worth £1,000 in a competition by leading blinds retailer BlindsbyPost.

The online retailer called on people from across the region to nominate businesses, charities, schools and other organisations that deserve to have their office space or building upgraded.

The National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) was randomly selected from entrants across the home counties, and have received £1,000 worth of motorised blinds for their dedicated staff that live on site to provide 24 hour care to the homeless animals in their care.

More than 500 homeless animals are cared for by the charity each year and the facility strives to provide all pets in their care with a loving temporary place to live before their forever home is found.

Jackie de Friez, centre manager at NAWT Hertfordshire said: This is a fantastic gift for NAWT Hertfordshire to receive, and it will certainly give our team a boost during what has been an exceptionally busy year so far.

“When you’re constantly working against the clock to make sure every homeless animal gets the medical care, training and love they need, you come to accept that things such as a good night’s sleep and a restful break in the day are extremely important.

“We have various priorities to tackle and we must make sure that the little money we do have goes towards the welfare needs of the animals. These new blinds are a luxury that we wouldn’t be able to afford without the kindness and generosity of BlindsbyPost and their fantastic charity initiative.

“It’s lovely that our team, who are always thinking of the animal’s needs above their own, now have something that will improve their time at work, especially those who live on-site full time. We are so grateful to be selected as the winners!”

Holly Jones, animal care assistant and live-in staff member at the centre, added: “I can’t wait to see what the blinds look like! It’ll make such a huge difference to the space and give it that extra homely feel.”

Founded in 2008, BlindsbyPost is the leading expert in made-to-measure window blinds. The Yorkshire-based retailer offers consumers a bespoke and fully online blind ordering service from its ecommerce store.

The company is one of the only retailers in the UK to have its own factory where every blind is handcrafted by more than 40 skilled employees. Oliver Hudson, Managing Director at BlindsbyPost is thrilled to be supporting the NAWT.

He comments: “The NAWT is a brilliant organisation that works tirelessly to rescue and re-home abandoned and unwanted animals. We hope the new motorised blinds will provide a warm and peaceful space for the on-site staff.”
