This summer, Fortnum & Mason will picnic where it has never picnicked before – on the waters of the iconic River Thames.
Launching for the first time ever this summer, Fortnum’s on Thames invites guests to step aboard a beautifully restored vintage boat for a two-hour private picnic experience through the scenic stretches of Henley-on-Thames.
Taking place during the Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Festival seasons, the exclusive experience is hosted aboard Christobel, a charming vintage vessel dressed in Fortnum’s iconic Eau de Nil and adorned with bespoke stripes by design house Colours of Arley. On board, guests will enjoy a quintessentially British riverside escape, complete with Fortnum’s picnics, Champagne, all served by the famous Fortnum’s Red Coats.
Private charters are available for groups of four, six or eight guests, and will include one of Fortnum’s signature fresh food picnics* presented in a keepsake Fortnum’s picnic bag, all carefully curated with summertime dining in mind.
Each picnic is inclusive of a starter, mains, pudding, cheese platter and drinks. Alfresco dishes range from smoked trout with black garlic crème fraiche and Coronation Cauliflower Tacos to Fortnum’s Classic Scotch Egg and Elderflower Jelly with Fresh Berries. Menus have been thoughtfully curated to capture the joy of a British summer picnic, with Fortnum’s signature blend of indulgence and seasonality in every bite. Guests may also choose to elevate their outing with Fortnum’s Brut Réserve Champagne or English Sparkling Rosé.
Experiences begin from £1,000 per charter for four guests and will run during the Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Festival.
The exclusive charter is perfect for summer reunions, birthday celebrations and unforgettable leisurely afternoons with loved ones – all accompanied by sweeping riverside views.
Liz Darran, Chief Brand and Creative Officer at Fortnum & Mason says, “Summer and picnics are woven into the fabric of Fortnum’s, so this year we wanted to do something a little different and take the tradition onto the Thames itself. With Fortnum’s on Thames, we’re inviting our guests to enjoy a quintessentially British summer ritual in an extraordinary and memorable setting. Our guests will enjoy thoughtfully prepared picnics, perfectly chilled fizz and ever-changing river views, all accompanied by those unmistakeable Fortnum’s touches. Whether during Henley Royal Regatta or the Henley Festival, it’s a relaxed celebration that feels timeless but always with something new to discover.”
Bookings are now live exclusively through Fortnum’s Concierge team, who will tailor each outing with thoughtful finishing touches – from celebratory surprises to extra sweet treats for the journey – to make the perfect picnic this summer.
