Freak Scene, the bold, irreverent punk-Asian restaurant from former Nobu London head chef Scott Hallsworth, is turning up the volume in Balham with the launch of its new Monster Brunch from Saturday 15 August.
Running every Saturday and Sunday until 20 December, Monster Brunch combines Freak Scene’s Japanese and Southeast Asian-inspired cooking with welcome drinks, free-flow options and live DJ sets.
Guests can choose between two 90-minute experiences. The £35 Monster Brunch includes a family-style sharing feast, welcome drink and live DJ, while the £45 Monster Free-Flow adds 90 minutes of unlimited Prosecco, beer and selected cocktails. Prices rise by £5 when booked fewer than seven days in advance.
The sample menu kicks off with DIY temaki filled with spicy tuna, avocado or salmon tartare, accompanied by sauces and crunchy toppings. From there, the table fills with Freak Scene-style dishes including izakaya sliders with umami mayo and chilli jam; pumpkin croquettes with yuzu kosho mayo and pickled chillies; chicken kushiyaki with yakiniku sauce; and barbecue prawns with laksa, crispy shallots and herb salad.
Garlic fried rice, house pickles and grilled hispi cabbage with ponzu, brown butter, truffle and dried miso complete the feast. The menu is served family-style and is subject to change.
Two sittings are available each day, from 12pm to 1.30pm and from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Freak Scene Balham can also host celebrations and larger gatherings, with a private room for up to 14 guests, exclusive use of its basement for up to 36, and full venue hire for as many as 60. Bespoke menus and packages are available for special occasions.
Monster Brunch launches on Saturday 15 August 2026 at Freak Scene, 1 Ramsden Road, Balham, London SW12 8QX.
