Jonas Kaufmann headlines David McVicar’s spectacular staging of Andrea Chénier, under the baton of long-time collaborator Antonio Pappano – who conducts in his last production as Music Director of The Royal Opera.

Sondra Radvanovsky reprises the role of Maddalena di Coigny which she last performed in 2019 to critical acclaim. They are joined by Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Aleksei Isaev sharing the role of Carlo Gérard, Katia Ledoux in the role of Bersi, Alexander Kravets as The Incredibile, and Ashley Riches performing the role of Roucher.

Also reprising their commended performances from the 2019 revival are Rosalind Plowright as Contessa di Coigny, Aled Hall as The Abbé, and Elena Zilio as Madelon. William Dazeley performs as Pietro Fléville, Simon Thorpe as Major-Domo, James Cleverton as Mathieu and Eddie Wade as Fouquier-Tinville.

Umberto Giordano’s timeless music powerfully illuminates the heartbreak and revolution at the core of this large-scale opera, while Robert Jones’ set design, Jenny Tiramani’s costumes and Adam Silverman’s lighting transports audiences to the tension and terror of the French Revolution.

Andrea Chénier will be performed on the Main Stage from 30 May to 11 June 2024. It will be in cinemas across 22 countries on Tuesday 11 June at 6.45pm (BST), with Encore screenings from Sunday 16 June 2024 at 2pm (BST).
