Our members can be proud that they stood up and fought hard, says GMB London

GMB members working for Historical Royal Palaces (HRP) at the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace have voted to accept the revised pension offer which was presented to them by HRP following two days of strike action, ending the union’s dispute with the independent charity.

Although unable to prevent the closure of the defined benefit pension scheme GMB members have gained significant improvements to the defined contribution scheme not only for themselves but for all other existing HRP defined contribution scheme members.

Michael Ainsley, GMB Regional Organiser said:

“We are disappointed not to have prevented the closure of the defined benefit pension scheme, however our members have voted to accept this new offer which is considerably better than what was originally on the table.

“Our members can be proud that they stood up and fought hard, they maintained all along that they were prepared to talk and would have preferred that HRP had talked to them before deciding unilaterally to take their pension from them.”
