Charities and community groups in Kingston have been given the chance to benefit from a share of a £3,000 windfall thanks to a builders merchant opening a new branch in the area.

Selco Builders Warehouse will take the wraps off its 67th UK branch on St George’s Industrial Estate on Richmond Road on Tuesday November 26, creating more than 50 local jobs in the process.

To mark the new opening, Selco is inviting charities or community groups from in and around Kingston to submit an application for its Selco Stars scheme for the chance to win £1,000.

Applicants are invited to explain in no more than 100 words how the money would benefit their organisation.

In addition to the one winner selected from the Selco Stars initiative, Selco will make £1,000 donations to Global’s Make Some Noise, which supports disadvantaged youngsters in London and right across the UK, as well as the activities of Macmillan Cancer Support in the local area.

Selco backs Macmillan nationally and has raised more than £700,000 over the last seven years.

Roy Barnard, branch manager at Selco Kingston, said: “We’re very excited to be opening in a new location, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by offering a great opportunity to local charities and community groups.

“So many organisations do such fantastic work in our community and we are very proud to be able to give them the chance to win a sum of money which will make a real difference.”

Entries can be made by filling in a form on the Selco website at www.selcobw.com/selcostars before midnight on Wednesday November 20

and one group will be selected by a panel of judges to win the £1,000.
