Green Fingers at the Ready!… Cameron Vale Pupils Participate in Gardening Challenge

Budding young gardeners at Cameron Vale School were recently set a unique and challenging task, to grow their very own vegetables at home.

As part of the whole school challenge, pupils from the Chelsea-based school picked up their hand trowels and donned their best gardening gloves to sow the seeds of a vegetable of their choice. The children tended to their crops daily and waited in anticipation for them to grow as they battled it out against each other to secure a win in one of two categories, ‘Best Vegetable Specimen’ and ‘Most Unique Vegetable’.

The Cameron Vale pupils then captured photographs of their produce and submitted them to the judging panel for deliberation. Rafi and Kamil were awarded the Lower School Most Unique entry, as they used recycled containers to plant their seeds, and Evie took the Lower School first-place spot for Best Specimen for her carrots, radishes and runner beans.

In the Upper School, the Best Specimen went to DJ for his delicious-looking lettuce and Chloe secured the Most Unique entry for an unusual oregano plant.

A number of other pupils received special recognition for their efforts including Eva for her tomatoes, Henry, Berke and Felipe for their salad crops and Caleb was commended for his innovative cloche.

Head of Lower School at Cameron Vale School and The Chelsea Nursery, Chloe Dorrington commented, “The pupils were very excited to take on our vegetable growing challenge, showcasing great enthusiasm and producing an array of lovely vegetables.

“At Cameron Vale School, we strive to create a learning environment where children are not only prepared for examination success, but also develop a life-long love of learning. We understand that children learn best when they are enjoying themselves and have carefully designed our curriculum to inspire, engage and challenge through a combination of focussed teaching and enquiry-based learning, which aims to provide active learning experiences which spark children’s curiosity, enabling them to develop their knowledge and skills further.”

Cameron Vale is a co-educational pre-prep and prep school for children from age 4 to 11 years. A homely and heart-lifting sight amid the bustle of Chelsea, London, Cameron Vale has a distinctive family atmosphere and nurturing ethos which celebrates the individual and strives to unlock each child’s true potential.

Driven by the belief that a ‘one size fits all’ approach is limiting, and supported by its small classes which allow each child to shine, the school is able to ensure children are known for who they are and develop their own gifts and talents; whether it be excelling in the classroom, on the sports field or the stage. Cameron Vale pupils are motivated to give everything and to be the best they can be, going on to prestigious secondary schools and further beyond.

A new addition to Cameron Vale School is The Chelsea Nursery, for children aged between 2 to 4 ½ years old. The Chelsea Nursery is committed to providing the best possible start to education, supporting each child to develop their full potential and develop a lifelong love of learning. In a safe and nurturing environment that is wholly child-centred, the curriculum is personalised to each child’s strengths and interests.

The Chelsea Nursery offers flexible wraparound care 50 weeks of the year, with opening hours from 8am to 6pm. Alongside the wider school’s breakfast and afterschool clubs, The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale School are ideally placed for a one-stop school drop, just off the King’s Road.
