The University of Greenwich’s Bathway Theatre Company will present Edinburgh with a contemporary feminist adaptation on the German Classic, Woyzeck – highlighting his victim, Marie. Unfinished at the time of the playwright’s, Georg Büchner, death, this version of Woyzeck will take a contemporary twist with commentary on working class exploitation, feminism, sexuality and religion.

Following a two-year Covid pause, this is the Bathway Theatre Company’s third Edinburgh Festival Fringe production after Blue Heart (2018) by Caryl Churchhill and We Want You to Watch (2019) by Alice Birch and Rash Dash.

Alicia Gibbs, assistant director, said:

“It’s so exciting and inspiring to be able to bring back theatre from Greenwich to Edinburgh, especially such an interesting take on the classic play Woyzeck.”

A group of 12 will make up to Edinburgh including nine cast members, one assistant director, one director and one person for light and sound.

The show runs from 15 – 27 August (not 21st) at theSpace on the Mile.
