As England fans dare to dream that football might finally be coming home, Greggs is making sure the celebrations start in the hometown of one of the England’s greatest ever goalscorers. Ahead of the tonight’s crucial match against Norway, Greggs has thrown its support behind the national team by transforming its Walthamstow shop to ‘KANES’ in tribute to local hero and the nation’s ultimate (sausage) role model, Harry Kane.
The Blackhorse View shop closed as normal on Friday evening before being substituted overnight into full England kit, reopening its doors as ‘KANES’ first thing this morning.
Whether fans prefer a tactical 4-4-2, or a four-pack of Sausage Rolls, the patriotic red-and-white makeover is the ultimate celebration in the hometown of the country’s all-time top scorer.
The shop is due to revert back to familiar Greggs branding on Sunday, though bosses haven’t ruled out extra time should Kane keep finding the back of the net and extending England’s tournament run. After all, if football is coming home, Greggs is happy to keep it in E17 a little longer.
Lynette Powell, Shift Manager at Greggs, Blackhorse View, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate a local lad who’s gone on to become one of the biggest names in football. Harry’s achievements have given local people plenty to be proud of over the years, and we’re delighted to be part of marking this special moment. We’re used to serving local favourites at Greggs, but this is definitely the first time we’ve had one named above the door!”
The Blackhorse View shop will be open from 6am to 7pm today, inviting local customers to stop by, take photos, and show support for their local hero.
