A Harrow scout group have put a cash donation from a regional housebuilder to good use by providing online activities for members during the current Covid-19 crisis.

The 13th Roxeth Scout Group has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North London thanks to its Community Champions scheme. Each month the housebuilder donates up tot £1,000 each to two groups or individuals in the local area.

The scout group currently have more than 100 members of all ages and backgrounds. The group pride itself on inclusivity, with members including children with special needs and children with family issues or money concerns.

A spokeswoman for the group, said: “Scouting has, in line with Government advice, ceased all face-to-face meetings, but we have continued with online meetings and the money from Persimmon Homes North London means we can fund our online activities and general running costs without our parents paying anything during this period.

“The group is already very popular in Harrow and the online activities help to give the children some kind of ‘normality’, and the feedback from the parents is extremely grateful and the smiles on the kids’ faces is brilliant.”

Rachel Faulkner, sales director for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are delighted to support 13th Roxeth Scout Group in this way.”

For the foreseeable future, Community Champions, which has run since 2015, will be targeted at over-70s groups with two donations of up to £1,000 available every month in the region.
