Help us build Safer Communities in London – Crimestoppers call to action for new partners

The Crimestoppers London Strategic Advisory Board – a volunteer committee, recently held an event at The Shard last week, bringing together London community partners and businesses, in a collective effort to combat crime and to ensure the safety of Londoners.

Last year the charity Crimestoppers, which is independent of the police, provided over 14,000 reports on behalf of members of the public, who contacted them with anonymous information about crime in London.

The ‘Building Safer Communities in London’ event, showcased the positive effects of London volunteering activity and promoted achievements from hard hitting crime awareness campaigns delivered.

Pastor Lorraine Jones, who featured in the recent Metropolitan Police and Crimestoppers ‘Hard Calls Save Lives’ campaign about knife crime, following the murder of her son Dwayne Simpson in 2014, was a guest speaker and stressed the need for members of the community to spread the word about Crimestoppers and how to speak up safely.

Other guest speakers included Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor of London for Police and Crime, Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist and Paul Furnell of British Transport Police.

The event closed with a powerful video message from Paul Canoville, ex-Chelsea football club player, who is the Fearless Ambassador for Crimestoppers in London, who highlighted the need for support through partnerships to continue their valuable work across London.

Alexa Loukas, Crimestoppers London Regional Manager, said: “As a result of this successful event, London Crimestoppers and its partners are ready to build on our efforts in gathering vital information and encouraging Londoners to come forward with anonymous information.

“By promoting trust and confidence in our anonymous reporting process, we aim to empower individuals to make a difference and play an active role in crime prevention.

“London Crimestoppers extends an open invitation to other organizations and individuals who share their commitment to join forces and to participate in future initiatives.”
