Veolia’s Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC) in Factory Lane, Croydon, will be open on Thursday 15 December to the residents of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton for a free toy giveaway – just in time for Christmas.

Veolia (waste and recycling contractor for the South London Waste Partnership and the boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton) has partnered with Community Reuse to give away free toys to the public this festive season.

The toys, which have been donated across the SLWP network of Household Reuse and Recycling Centres (HRRCs) have been saved from going to waste and are looking for a new home this Christmas having been checked to ensure they are complete and in safe working condition. They will make perfect Christmas gifts for loved ones whilst giving a gift back to the planet by helping Veolia deliver its purpose of ecological transformation through waste reduction.

Residents can find Veolia’s toy giveaway at Factory Lane HRRC, Factory Lane, Croydon, CR0 3RL on Thursday 15 December between 10am and 3:30pm. The giveaway is open to all residents across the SLWP boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton – residents are asked to bring proof of address. Factory Lane HRRC is open to pedestrians as well as visitors arriving in their vehicles.

Veolia will be working with local voluntary organisations across the four SLWP boroughs to help spread the word.

Scott Edgell, General Manager for Veolia South London said:

“Our toy giveaway is a great way for residents to give pre-loved toys a new lease of life and make someone’s Christmas special this year without costing the planet. It’s always good to recycle but even better to reuse, as we can avoid wasting energy and raw materials used in producing new toys and instead rehome toys that have plenty of life left in them. While we aim to deliver the highest quality collections, street cleansing and HRRC services year-round, we hope that this free giveaway adds that extra bit of support to the communities we serve.”

If residents still need to complete their Christmas shopping but can’t make it to Factory Lane HRRC on 15 December, the Community Reuse Shops at Fishers Farm HRRC in Croydon or Kimpton Parkway HRRC in Sutton are open year-round. Items such as TVs, musical instruments, books and toys are all sold at a reduced cost. Opening times for each shop can be found on Croydon and Sutton Council websites: croydon.gov.uk/hrrc and sutton.gov.uk/hrrc.
