Home Bargains has invested approximately £1 million its new store in Greenwich, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 27th March 2021.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 88 new jobs in the local community with its store on Bugsby’s Way. In total, the store will employ 91 team members, including some management who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to the local charity Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), which aims to empower communities and changes lives by improving health, education and employment and reducing crime. Last year it worked with over 46,000 people in South East London and Kent.

Lorna Taylor, Head of Fundraising and Development at Charlton Athletic Community Trust, said: “Thank you so much to everyone at Home Bargains for this generous donation to CACT. We’re delighted to welcome Home Bargains to the local community, just down the road from The Valley where several of our programmes are based. These funds will help us continue our life-changing work with some of the most vulnerable in our community.”

The new Greenwich store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Leanne Strike, the new Greenwich store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Greenwich store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.

“Having worked for Home Bargains for just over three years, and in the retail sector generally for several years, this is certainly a special moment and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my career.”

The 20,172 sq ft store, which formally housed Wickes, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

The new store will also come with its own garden centre – GardenWorld at Home Bargains – that boasts a fantastic range of plants, soils and garden décor at amazing prices. Plus, its own bakery, serving a delicious range of fresh bread, pastries and cakes that will be baked in-store daily.

Leanne added: “Bugsby’s Way will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
