A North London Foodbank has received a donation to help set up a Holiday Fun playscheme to support families struggling to feed their children during the school holidays.
The organisation received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North London through its Community Champions scheme, where charities, groups and organisations can apply for a match-funded donation.
The North London Foodbank provides emergency food boxes for families in crisis in the hope that, by providing support, families can focus on getting themselves back on their feet.
North London Foodbank spokesman Pincus Mann said: “Over the past seven years, we have noticed a pattern that referrals spike during the school holidays. The reason for this is that many families rely on the safety net of school breakfast clubs and free school meals and struggle with these additional expenses when school is out.
“We also realise that families struggle to find a safe place for children during the holidays while parents are working,
“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes North London as the play scheme will provide nutritious breakfast and lunch meals, as well as exciting activities and trips for deprived children.”
Karl Endersby, director in charge at Persimmon Homes, North London said: “It is always an aim of ours to support the communities in which we build in. The North London Foodbank offers an amazing service and helps many families within the community during difficult times.”
