IKEA has today opened the doors of its new store in Hammersmith, West London. IKEA Hammersmith will be the first city centre, small store in the UK, with the milestone opening making shopping for IKEA products more accessible and convenient than ever before.
Set across two floors with 4,600 sqm worth of commercial space, IKEA Hammersmith will have a free-flowing layout, and is the first in a new shopping experience for customers. At a quarter of the size of a traditional store, it is small but perfectly formed, full of all the things customers know and love about the retailer. 1,800 products are available to take away on the day, while 4,000 on display provide ‘life at home’ inspiration to Londoners. The full range remains available for delivery, alongside in-store planning services that support customers in designing bespoke solutions for more complex spaces.
Customers familiar with the traditional Market Hall layout in larger blue box stores can now find the products located next to the roomsets they represent. The new store will help with finding items already in mind, or for those looking for home furnishing or sustainable living inspiration whilst on their lunch break.
The location, chosen for its proximity to a strong public transport network – including four tube lines and 68 bus routes – opens following the creation of 140 local jobs.
To celebrate its opening, the retailer is hosting a number of events over the coming days. IKEA co-workers will be leading specialist workshops and offering home furnishing expertise to help customers feel inspired and make the most of life at home. The sessions, which are free to attend, will include how to make a rented space still feel homely, making the most out of small space living, and storage hacks.
Helping busy parents keep the kids occupied, balloon modellers and magicians will be at the store on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th February, with an exciting treasure hunt also taking place for some family fun.

IKEA Family members will have access to a number of opening offers, with up to 30% off selected products until 31st March*, including the popular RISATORP basket, GLADOM tray table and BARNDRÖM cushion. For those not already signed up, customers can join IKEA Family for free either in store or online for access to member discounts, exclusive workshops and events, plus a free hot drink Monday – Friday.
IKEA Hammersmith will be located within ‘Livat Hammersmith’ – a new meeting place by Ingka Centres. Since acquiring the Kings Mall shopping Centre in 2019, Ingka Centres has begun the transformation of the space to a mixed-used destination, providing a place for the people of Hammersmith to come together.
