Imposition of 20mph road zones has been ‘a disaster’, says Welsh Secretary

LABOUR is waging a war on motorists in Wales with the blanket imposition of 20mph speed limits in urban areas, according to Welsh Secretary David Davies.

He told GB News: “No reasonable person would oppose a 20 miles an hour speed limit outside of school or a hospital, somewhere where there are vulnerable people, but to just have a blanket ban In all urban areas, and many that aren’t urban, is completely ridiculous and is making it harder for motorists to get to work.

“It’s actually causing problems for people catching buses because they’ve had to tear up their schedules as well.”

In an interview with GB News’ Political Editor Christopher Hope, he continued: “It doesn’t stop there because it’s not just about 20 miles an hour limits. They’re bringing down the speed limit on dual carriageways, for sort of nebulous excuses.

“They’ve decided to stop building any new roads ever again from being built because they say it’s more friendly from a climate point of view.

“First of all, sit in traffic jams breathing in fumes, and they want to bring in charges of course, like many other cities, they want to charge us for going into Cardiff, they want to take out lanes and put more bus routes in. It is a disaster, a war on motorists.

“…so at the next elections, I hope people will be aware that it is the Labour Party that are carrying out a war on motorists and we can change that.”

Asked about the prospects of tax cuts, he said: “I’m not going to get a hypothetical situation. I would love to see all taxes coming down.

“We are a tax cutting party, but we do it in a responsible way. We do it when we can afford to do it without damaging the economy.”
