Last night, Josh Widdicombe headlined the McCain Comedy Club at Hoxton Hall in London, bringing dads and their sons together for an evening of shared laughter.
Hosted by fellow comedian Jack Skipper, the charity gig saw Widdicombe entertain families who packed out the venue and bonded over punchlines and chips.
Ex-rugby player Joe Marler, who is also backing McCain’s campaign to encourage shared laughter between dads and sons was spotted in the crowd, along with his son Jasper.
Although the gig began with England 0-1 down, Josh celebrated as fans called out England’s goals from the audience. Marking the turnaround, Josh quipped:
“Harry should change his name to Harry McCain!”
The evening was hosted by McCain following a report released in partnership with charity Beyond Equality, which found 63% of dads worry their son will drift away during their teenage years, with over half (54%) wanting a deeper relationship but not knowing
where to begin. The experts at Beyond Equality revealed that something as simple as a few minutes of shared laughter each day can help maintain the bond as boys reach adolescence.
As part of the evening, a portrait series shot by Rankin was exhibited that captures authentic moments of humour between Joe Marler and his son Jasper, as well as dads and sons from across the UK.
Ticket sales have been donated to masculinity charity Beyond Equality, supporting their work helping men and boys move beyond restrictive stereotypes and build healthier relationships.
