Influential German designer Karl Lagerfeld has died today aged 85.
Gemma Moran, Fashion Lecturer at the University of Salford, paid tribute to legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who has passed away age 85.
Gemma said: “Karl Lagerfeld was such a long standing icon in the Fashion industry and he will be sorely missed by anyone who loves Fashion. His career spanning over 60 years he understood how to empower women and challenge the idea of femininity with his garment cutting and use of fabrics.
“Mostly famed for his time with Chanel as well as many other collaborations and his own label to achieve all he did was down to his incredible work ethic. His early pieces at Chloe could make anyone cry, his turnaround at Chanel is one of the greatest stories ever, to make a tired house relevant and the sales fly through the roof. Real designers have the greatest respect for him, as they do for his schoolmate Azzedine Alaia and the other designer that rose with him, Yves Saint Laurent.”
