Kerth Gumbs x Kareem Roberts come together for a Caribbean Celebration

Ahead of Notting Hill Carnival, Sky Garden’s Fenchurch Restaurant will host a vibrant celebration of Caribbean food, music and culture on Thursday 27th August. The Carnival Collaboration sees Fenchurch Chef de Cuisine Kerth Gumbs join forces with fellow Great British Menu (BBC Two) chef Kareem Roberts for a six-course carnival tasting menu served 37 floors above London. Expect signature dishes including 48-hour curried goat, Johnny cakes and island-inspired flavours combined with live entertainment and rum-led cocktails.
Having previously worked together in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Kerth and Kareem reunite in London for one night only. Drawing on their shared Caribbean heritage from Anguilla and Antigua respectively, the evening begins with bubbles and canapés, where guests will have the opportunity to meet both chefs before a DJ and dancers bring the energy and colours of Carnival to Sky Garden.
Dinner opens with snacks including an oxtail croquette with gherkin ketchup alongside roast pork, scallion jam and hardo bread. At the table, guests will enjoy the return of a firm favourite first seen on Great British Menu: Kerth’s crab Johnny cake, topped with oscietra caviar, bronze fennel and Scotch bonnet mayo for an extra kick.
Kareem leads the first courses with tomato pavé, Scotch bonnet and thyme shrub, followed by saltfish mac and cheese with mussel rundung; before Kerth then presents one of the Caribbean’s most beloved dishes: 48-hour curried goat with coconut dumplings, rice and peas, plantain and bell pepper salad. A pre-dessert of pineapple, chilli and lime is followed by Kareem’s banana bread and butter pudding, paired with Guinness toffee sauce.
A vegetarian menu is also available, featuring dishes such as avocado gazpacho, tofu Johnny cake, roasted sweet potato with pigeon pea hummus and plantain choka, and chickpea and squash curry served with coconut dumplings.
Guests opting for the cocktail pairings will start with Punch on Pepper, a blend of Bumbu Rum, tropical fruits and spices, before moving on to four bespoke serves. Highlights include the Carnival Margarita with Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, pear purée, lime and Scotch bonnet agave, the Caribbean Cloud blends Appleton Estate Signature Rum with passionfruit, citrus, vanilla and bergamot air; and Little Black Book with Discarded Banana Peel Rum, coffee liqueur and Bumbu cream.
The Carnival Collaboration begins at 6pm with a welcome reception, before guests are seated at 6.45pm. Tickets are £85 per person for six courses, including a welcome cocktail. Cocktail pairings are available for an additional £55 per person, while wine pairings are £65 per person.
