A former Labour Party candidate has said Labour Party members are “seething” at the behaviour of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Speaking on GB News Kevin Craig said: “There are hundreds of thousands of Labour Party members across this country who are seething at what’s been going on with the Parliamentary Labour Party.

“To lose their nerve and turn on Starmer within two years of historic general election defeat – of course there were bad election results, but Labour is making that a huge mistake in trying to defenestrate a sitting Prime Minister because of poor local elections.

“With Reform currently running 10% of councils across the country, for those of us who spent decades campaigning for Labour governments, we’ve made huge sacrifices at times to put the party first, this is just so dispiriting.

“I don’t care, I want Starmer, who has not always been kind to me, to stay in there and be dragged out kicking and screaming.

“Keir has definitely made mistakes. In the beginning of the Labour government, the way that Number 10 treated some backbench MPs was quite disgraceful. That actually started before the general election. If you were a candidate in a non-battleground seat, the party just talked down to you in a way that was unforgivable.

“But the party management in the first year and a half was terrible. They’ve started to improve it. But people need to remember, Labour will not win from this, and the country is looking in and think we are a bunch of idiots for this.

“There’s no clarity on what [ministers] do or don’t think, or what Wes is going to do or not. They haven’t thought through what happens next.

“We’re a nuclear power in the middle of an international crisis. They haven’t thought through what’s going to happen for businesses like me, employers of people, generated millions of tax across the years.

“We’re out there in this economy, getting on with it, and we’re being let down by these people.”
